Venice Film Festival 2016

The Venice Film Festival originated in 1932. The festival has occurred annually every since, and is the longest running film festival. This year it  ran August 31st to September 10th. The awards were spread out among a variety of films, with diverse countries of origin. Some of the winers included talent from Sweden, Turkey, Spain, Germany, France, Qatar, and many others. Because of this diversity of talent the Venice Film Festival is the most prestigious of the film festivals. Many of the winners already have early Oscar buzz. From a Lead Actress nomination for Emma Stone in La La Land, to a Best Foreign Language film nomination for The Woman Who Left by Lav Diaz. Only time will tell if the films find an audience in the United States and a place at the Academy Awards. All the winners already have the recognition of the Venice Film Festival to place upon their mantels. If any of the films are playing near you, try something new and support film as an art form.
